Three Weeks Away: GAC 2005

It’s not too late to clear your schedule and attend the CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C. A great turnout is expected for this February 27-March 2 “Main Event.” Top-notch speakers include some of Washington’s heaviest hitters:

· General Tommy Franks: Leadership, citizenship, and values

· Treasury Secretary John Snow: The Bush administration on Social Security, tax reform, and financial services

· Representative Michael Oxley: The agenda of the House Financial Services Committee and its impact on credit unions

· Representative Barney Frank: How Democrats feel about financial services issues

· Representative John Linder: House Rules Committee and major tax reform

· Representatives Ed Royce and Paul Kanjorski: What will affect the prospects of CURIA in the year ahead?

Key sessions discuss bank attacks, Social Security reform, best practices, overdraft privilege plans, CURIA and regulatory relief, CULAC fundraising strategies, NCUA exams, ID theft, credit reports, and “Hiking the Hill” on March 2.

Between the talks make sure to visit the exhibits, which showcase the latest CUNA tools that make it easier to manage your credit union, including programs for benchmarking, regulatory compliance training and certification, accelerated sales and service, member research surveying, and website capability.

Don’t forget that attending the GAC Conference is also worth 15 group-live CPE credit hours.
